Even if they're here for two weeks, a week, or a summer, the experience helps them grow physically, socially, and emotionally.
If your family is searching for options when it comes to Maple day camps, Kettleby Valley might be the answer you’re looking for. Kettleby Valley day camp is just north of King Road, off highway 400. We offer weekly programs within a beautiful setting, just minutes away from Maple.
The Day Camp Experience at Kettleby Valley
Our day camps program begins with a bus ride. In Maple, we offer transportation from your home each morning. The first people on the bus are our bus counsellors, who keep campers safe and active with crafts and songs on the way to camp. Each camper is given the group number they’ve been assigned to on a name tag as they get on the bus. This way it’s easy for them to get together with their group mates and counsellors once they arrive. As each bus pulls up our long camp driveway, they’re greeted by Peter, the Director. Once all the buses have arrived and the campers are in their groups, it’s time for some traditional day camp activities. Each group follows a set schedule throughout the week. Swimming, Climbing Wall, Arts and Crafts, Archery and Camp Craft are just a few of the programs we offer.
Lunch is an important part of our day camps. Activities like Climbing Wall offer challenges, adventure and a chance for campers to try things they’ve never done before. We see meal time the same way. Campers love the food we serve. Grilled cheese, hamburgers and pizza are always popular, while perogies and sloppy joe sandwiches represent new food for some campers. And there are always plenty of veggies at every table. There aren’t many Maple day camps that offer a lunch that’s both popular and as healthy as ours.
After we finish lunch it’s time for more activities. Most of our activities take place outside, even when it’s raining so please send your camper prepared. In the even of a heavy rain or storm, we head into our dining hall for songs and games. During a heat alert, we adapt our program to avoid running. Most of the camp is covered with beautiful trees so it’s easy for us to stay out of the sun. No matter what the weather, campers are always kept hydrated and healthy all day.
At the end of the day, the entire day camp gathers together to celebrate group and individual achievements like a special skill that was learned at camp craft or perhaps a bull’ s eye that someone got at Crossbow. By 4:00 pm the campers are on the buses and heading home.
Fantastic Day Camp Staff
When we select our staff, each candidate takes part in a personal interview with the Director. If a candidate is deemed worthy, we contact their references to gather more insight into their character and qualities. Finally, each staff member must submit a current police check. These hiring policies are in line with the Ontario Camps Association standards.
Working at a summer camp is a big commitment. Our staff understand this because they’ve grown up at Kettleby Valley. They know how important their role is when it comes to making a camper’s experience enjoyable. Making connections with each camper is what our staff do best.
Staff training for our day camps takes place prior to the beginning of the summer. During staff training, our counsellors are taught to pay close attention so that everyone is included. They are also taught to balance support with the space needed to develop confidence and independence.
We hire certified instructors for activities such as climbing/ropes course, canoeing and swimming. We also run in-depth training sessions that are specific to our facility in order to ensure a safe and positive experience for our campers.
A Remarkable Setting Only 20 Minutes North
There might be other programs that offer similar activities, but the beautiful natural surrounds of Kettleby Valley is what sets us apart from other Maple day camps. Everything about the camp gives you the impression that you’ve travelled to cottage country. And our wood buildings fit right in with the forests and rolling hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine. Our canoeing area and streams add to the rustic setting.
Overnight Camp at the Same Great Location
Kettleby Valley is one of the only Maple day camps to offer an overnight camp option as well. Twice each summer, our day camp children have the chance to have a sleep over on the Thursday night of their weekly camp session. These sessions are very popular and fill up quickly.
In addition to the 240 day campers, Kettleby Valley is also home to 90 overnight campers. Our overnight camp sessions are offered as one or two-week sessions throughout the summer. Day campers become familiar with the setting and routine of Kettleby Valley. This makes the transition to being an overnight camper much easier once they’re ready for a residential camp experience.
We Service Other Communities Too!
Kettleby Valley has been a camp favourite for families in Maple for years. We offer bus pick up from other nearby communities as well. Our Woodbridge day camp, Vaughan day camp and Kleinberg day camp services are also very popular.
Kettleby Valley –A RICHILDACA Tradition
Our roots as a camp began as a Richmond Hill Day Camp. RICHILDACA was name of the original camp that stood where Kettleby Valley now exists. Bill and Jean Babcock created the camp to offer children in the Richmond Hill area a chance to try their hand and traditional camp activities such as archery, canoeing and camp craft. As the G.T.A. expanded, they began adding Thornhill day camp, Newmarket day camp and Aurora day camp services to their program. Today Kettleby Valley continues the tradition of providing traditional summer camp programs to campers from as far away as China, Korea and Germany.
