Delicious and Healthy Meals
Kids love our food at Kettleby Valley Summer Camp. We serve meals that are popular with our campers and our camp food is also nutritious and healthy. We choose to bake food rather than deep fry it. We also use whole wheat bread rather than white, and real cheese rather than processed. Allergies and dietary restrictions are accommodated without trouble and vegetarian options are always available.
For our day camp program, we provide a hot lunch served family style in our traditional camp Dining Hall. For our overnight camp program, we work hard to ensure that every meal is nutritious and delicious. At our summer camp, we use meals as a chance to develop a sense of togetherness and community, discuss the highlights of the day and make connections with our campers.
At mealtime, we emphasize the importance of being open to new foods and to make healthy choices when it comes to eating. It’s an important lesson for campers to try meals that perhaps they’ve never eaten before and the results are almost always positive.
Putting together a great team of camp staff starts long before the summer. Prior to working at our summer camp, each staff member takes part in a personal interview with our Director. We insist on three references from each staff member and successful candidates require a vulnerable sector screening through the police. In addition to our 4 day training session, many of our summer camp staff take part in professional training outside the camp to ensure that they are certified and have the most up-to-date qualifications.
Having a caring and enthusiastic group of counsellors and instructors is critical to any successful summer camp program. Our summer camp staff know how to promote a safe and fun environment and we have 1 staff member for every 4 campers to ensure that each child gets the attention they need to succeed at camp.
Many of our staff have grown up with us at camp and they’ve experienced first hand what it’s like to have a great role model for a counsellor. They understand that they play an important part in a child’s summer camp experience.
As summer camp staff, we know when to provide guidance and attention. We also know when to step back to give a camper the space to increase their sense of independence and self-confidence. The development of a child is a great responsibility and it is one that we have never taken lightly.
Overnight Summer Camp Programs Promote Confidence and Independence
Kettleby Valley offers a traditional overnight camp experience in York Region, camping just minutes away from Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora, Maple, Woodbridge and Vaughan. Kettleby Valley is the summer camp Toronto families love because we offer an outstanding program that’s close to home.
Overnight summer camp is one of the best ways to introduce kids (and their parents) to the experience of being away from home. At Kettleby Valley camp, our program provides kids with the chance to develop a healthy sense of independence in a safe a supportive environment. With fewer than 75 campers each week, our overnight camp program is large enough to provide diversity in personalities and strengths, yet small enough to provide a sense of community.
During their experience at Kettleby Valley, our campers live in traditional camp cabins ranging in size. These cabins house four to eight campers each and provide a common ground that lends itself to camaraderie. Toilets and showers are located in buildings nearby the sleeping cabins. For our youngest campers, counsellors live in the same cabins to provide the necessary supervision. For our older campers, our staff stay in adjacent cabins to offer an added sense of independence.
Our R.I.S.E. program is presented to all our overnight campers. These campers have a chance to choose the majority of the activities that they take part in each day. These include unique activities to the R.I.S.E. program such as Paintball, Wilderness Skills and Frisbee Golf.
Kettleby Valley provides children with an outstanding summer camp experience, and yet they’re never far from home!
Canoe Tripping Experience
Canoe tripping in Algonquin Park with our summer camp is a great way to bond with other campers, learn leadership skills and develop a healthy work ethic. Canoe tripping also provides people with a sense of what it’s like to live without the things they take for granted. Making do without the internet, computers, cell phones and running water for a week is beneficial and surprisingly easy for our participants. Canoe tripping in Algonquin Park is an experience that campers remember for many years to come.
We offer this unique summer camp experience for our senior campers who have completed grade 7 & 8 by the summer. The experience begins on Saturday at Kettleby Valley, where we teach all the canoeing, cooking and portaging skills necessary to make the trip safe and successful. Then, on Monday morning, the group departs for Algonquin Park for four nights, returning on Friday afternoon.
The cost of the trip is $910 and with a very limited number of spots available, space fills quickly so families are encouraged to register early.
