Swimming has always been a popular camp activity at Kettleby Valley. The pool is also a place where most of our lost items are collected. We’ve always offered two 30 minute periods for swimming – once for lessons and once recreation. This means that the campers are required to change four times. In other words, campers spend almost as much time changing as they do swimming.
For 2017, we’ve decided to move to a single 60-minute swim period. The first half of the period will be for lessons and the second half will be set aside for games and fun. This new schedule will cut the time spent changing for swimming in half without affecting the time spent in the pool. Our hope is that less time spent changing may also lead to fewer lost items.
The other big change to our swimming program is our transition from Red Cross Swim levels to Life Saving Society levels. Many of the communities we service currently offer the L.S.S. program. The L.S.S. program also offers features such as online report cards that parents can access.
We’re confident that these changes will improve our program and the overall experience that campers have at Kettleby Valley. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 905-726-4275.
