Leader-in-Training ProgramOur LIT program is offered to individuals who have finished Grade 9. It provides an excellent opportunity for you to learn leadership strategies and develop team skills. It also provides you with the opportunity to use the camp as a reference for future employment. Each candidate completes an application and takes part in an interview. The candidates are chosen based on merit. It should be understood that the program is designed to expose the LIT’s to new and challenging situations and this begins with the application process. We are looking for individuals that are ready to take on greater responsibilities than that of a Camper. We strongly encourage each candidate to complete the application and arrange for the interview without the help of their parents. This indicates to us that the candidate is ready for the added responsibility of becoming an LIT. Successful candidates commit to three weeks (either in July or August). During the first week, LITs work together as a group, learning the skills and techniques that are vital to working with children at Camp. The other two weeks provide the LIT with the opportunity to put these skills into action while apprenticing as a Counsellor and as an Activity Instructor. An opportunity may also be made available to volunteer your time for a fourth week to further develop your skills. This week may also be used to fulfill your community service hours required by your high school, depending on the stipulations set out by your particular school. There are a very limited number of spots available, and they have traditionally filled quickly, so participants are encouraged to apply quickly. |
